going to be dropping this maybe tomorrow. we were debating what kind it was without the leaves it was hard to tell.

it does have long seed pods on it. I tried to show them in one pic....

thanks, lone wolf!! we were debating whether it was catalpa or another species. we'll be dropping it tomorrow and most likely scrapping it then.

My first guess would have been red elm by the bark and limbs, but catalpa it is I guess having pods. Never saw one that big.

They get reallllly big around here. I know of a few that were planted along a fence row probably 60-70 years ago. Probably 40" diameter trunks.

You have a little portable mill by chance? Maybe leave a 6 footer in case you want to mill it later. I bet it would look cool.

Catalpa should have a light brown with little or no sap ring and super light tough fiber wood, Unique smell when you cut it. Delightful to craft with and hard to find not hollow.

I would double check if that is truly Cherry. Callery Pear or Bradford Callery Pear. Fools many people is knoxious in my notion and will put fruit on that looks like young cherry but never matures to "Cherry" One difference is the wood is to white not the rich dark color of cherry.

When you get a catalpa cut into lumber and find the right customer you should be able to match or double Black Walnut prices. Try to harvest it for the novelty wood it is.
