They've had a $9.99 shipping deal going on for a while but I don't know if its still on. It was something like anything for 9.99 except some very large and/or heavy items. I recently made 3 seperate orders from them and had everything within a few business days. Service was very good too. Maybe they're listening to folks and working on it.
In general though, shipping charges are outrageous. Just spent $15.00 to ship a couple if calendars to Texas form Az and that was the cheapest quote I could find.

Going to check the mail now for the new catalog

2 weeks ago I looked at ordering from them. In my basket I put 3 Oregon parts that would fit in a small padded envelope. The cost was like $38 and they wanted $15.95 shipping and there were no options for any other alternative shipping method.

You can get Oregon parts from many sources. I found one that shipped the parts 1st class USPS for half that amount. I had the parts 2 days later.

That sucks. It seems like there are some inconsistancies then because I ordered parts about 1 1/2, 2, and 3 weeks ago. All of my stuff fit into boxes that were about 8"x 10" x 6 ". I ordered 3 chains in one order and some other parts with a little weight to them and all 3 orders were $9.99.
Don't know if it matters, but I called in all of my orders because I had to have them look up some parts that I couldn't find on the website. Not a fan of their website.

I agree they must profit off shipping. Everything shows online as being in stock until you get your order and half is backordered or NLA but nobody ever contacts you to let you know.

Yeah, the shipping charges suck. That $9.99 thing they had going on was (I thought) just a limited time promo. Maybe they were testing the waters to see if orders increased during that time? I just got my new catalog too in the mail. I remember right after they discontinued it I called up looking for a new one because I thought it got lost in the mail somewhere. The lady on the phone said in so many words: "we're not making them anymore, all orders will be done through the website. But we'll see how long that lasts since most of our big orders come from loggers and they don't have the time or patience to wade through the website" I guess enough of them complained.

Howdy,

Bailey's can't run with the big dogs out there anymore when it comes to low everyday prices because their overhead is tremendous. The majority of their current customer base is one-time, one-order customers. Let's face it, people who know exactly what they're looking for, are going to shop for the best price to their door. When the sale is on, with a shipping deal included, Bailey's is usually it.

Regards
Gregg

Are you able to talk about their 'overhead' Gregg?

Is it inefficiency stuff, or additional things they do that a cut-rate company may not? Just curious.

Bottom line pricing is one thing, Service is another. So is knowledge and experience. Range of products. Etc. Your participation here on A.S., for example, was one of the things that set them apart from other vendors for me.

Thanks.

Got my catalog today but the prices are only good for 3 mos.

True. They were first on our list for supplies for a long time. We didn't mind paying a little bit more because of the variety and the service and the fact that they understood people who made their living in the woods. That's changed...and not for the better. They have some people there who are really trying to keep up the old level of service but I get the feeling they're beating their heads against the wall. Having to live and work in Woodland would be depressing all by itself.

LOL...With the 101 Cafe and Bailey's both gone there's no reason to even slow down going through Laytonville any more.

Shipping was a killer for me too. Once in a while they have a free or otherwise good shipping deal but those events never seem to line up with my needs. I buy chainsaw and arborist stuff fairly frequently but can't (won't) wait on stuff for the next "special deal" so I seek out the best "to my door" price and it is rarely Baileys nowadays. I think the last thing I ordered from them was a pair of Labonville chaps. For instance, on my list right now is a couple carb kits for the Walbro WA/WTs. I will probably not order those by themselves but I'm also not going to pay $10 shipping on $10 worth of parts when they could be mailed for less than a dollar in an envelope. Shipping has gone up (a lot) but I can't get their rates down my craw. So I exercise other options. Dang, I can get stuff from China for way less shipping than from them so can't buy the all the way on the west coast reasoning. There's not much that they sell that I can't get somewhere else for less.

A few minutes ago I went to the site and initiated a grinding wheel order and it gave me the option of USPS Priority and all the UPS shipping methods which I consider perfectly acceptable but two weeks ago it was $15.95 period! I have already ordered my stuff from another source.

Got my catalogue too.
But, the shipping cost has made me frequent my local Husky / Stihl dealer. A 24" loop of Woodland Pro chain works out to around $29. with shipping...then the waiting. I get 24" Stihl chain for $30. plus tax, and I have it right then and there. Same with the Woodland Pro Synthetic oil; with shipping $28.65 a six pack of the 6.4 oz bottles. At my dealer, $12.99 for a 6-pack of 2.6 oz Stihl Ultra.
I suppose it's good for the local independent dealer that shipping from most online vendors plus the addition of tax has created a sort of equal playing field.

Their search engine is messed up. Parts I know they have don't show up. When I find a part number somewhere else and plug it in, the item pops right up, with the name I was searching for in the title. The old layout was much easier. I've shipped power heads for less than they want to ship a bar sometimes
