I'm looking to buy this bar and I noticed the difference in height between the bar itself and the tip .
Is this something that can cause chain damage or can it just be filed down to match ?

That tip was probably off another bar. When putting a new tip on an old bar it's often the opposite and you need to grind down the tip to match the old warn bar. Throw that tip on a less warn bar and that's what you'll see.

Just a guess anyway but if the tip is OK just grind the bar to match it and go cut

When in Doubt, Throw it OUT! Unless you go into the bush alone, and with a help pendant, thats junk waiting to harm.
