Hello, I planted some apricot, nectarine, persimmon... trees about 5-6 weeks ago. Have been deep watering them once a week. There were tiny buds (new growth) on the otherwise bare branches when I planted the trees. Now, the buds are dry and there is no new growth. How can I make sure that my trees are still living and will be okay?

Thanks
Anu

Disclaimer: I don't have experience with these trees, or California.

That said, take your fingernail and scratch the bark at a branch tip. Do you see green? Yes, alive. No, dead.

Usually if I dont see green I proceed to break the branch, dry and brittle, dead.

Work your way around the tree, looking for living tissue. Dead branches don't come back to life...
