An extremely good presentation. That should be on a dvd/cd so that it could be shared. There are others on this site that have taken the time to document their expertise.
Could the site include a help section by topic and organize these great presentaions? TreeSlingers falling of a large tree, Ekka's many "How To Posts", Andy's many many items, etc. How to sharpen and adjust a chain, adjust a carb, use wedges, square filing, the use of a Silvey Grinder, and many more. I know that there is a search function, but organized and indexed would make it much easier to use.
THANKS AGAIN

Frank, my idea by naming it "Basic Rebuild: was that all you would have to do is type in "basic" and it would come up in a search. That's why I named the carb one "Basic Repair". I have a MS 290 I plan to put a new piston in, so I was going to do a pic thread on it, since it has a modular engine, compared to the 034 with a split case. I also have an MS 280 coming in with a broke crank, so I might do it as well. I am doing an antique Ram now, but I probably will just put it at the collectors site since there is more interest for 50+ year old saws over there.
I plan to start any new rebuilb threads with pics with "basic" so maybe that will catch on.

Man, I'm tellilng you, make a book about basic chainsaw repair, and you could do well. $15 to $20 a pop adds up quick, and I'll guarantee you a lot of guys will but one if it's illustrated and as detailed as your thread here.

Oh, pics are gone? I was trying to find the part number for the small exhaust spacer for the smaller saws. Anyone?

For vacuum test, I usually use an exhaust spacer with a rubber piece to seal the exhaust port after the muffler is removed (to examine the condition of the piston first.) I found there are two sizes of exhaust ports. One is like on bigger saws like 036, 046 or 066. That I have the exhaust spacer off a 034. I read in this thread that they make exhaust spacer for smaller saws like 024, 026, 028 and I wanted to buy one, so I was looking for the part number.

Not that I'm aware off... but...

A small piece of 1/8th aluminum or steel bar with two holes drilled in it works the same..

yes.. pics are gone for now... (I suspect they'll be back..). That's the problem with using photobucket and not uploading them to AS.

How do I see the Photobucket images that are attached to this thread? In the image box it is saying that the image has been deleted. I'd love to see the photos as i am about to start on an 034 project.

yeah, what he said....

I did a rebuild w/pics a while back for a 036. The files may be lost after the site hacking?

What you need to see?

PM me for pics. Crank was OK so just a top end job.....

I just did my first saw which was an ms290, I just bought a 036 with no compression so I was looking for an engine build or pictures of how the seals go in and how the case splits etc, just to help with the rebuild of this saw

Seal and gasket set is $14.

I do not have nice seal puller, local dealer here, if you bring a clean saw w/o flywheel/clutch will put seals in $15

$30 well spent.

If the seals are easy to install I can do them myself I'm sure. The only thing I have to compare them to is the 290 where you need to pull the whole motor apart to do the seals.
