Birch leaves falling in MN

Our 7 yr old River Birch is losing leaves and branches have become brittle over the past 60 days....Looking for help.

Has the tree been getting regularly watered? Depending where you are that may be the problem or part of it, it has been very to extremely dry across much of MN thus far this summer and birch, especially in yards can be pretty sensitive to moisture variations.
