My heat exchanger has been in for about 4 yrs now and it seems to not be as hot as it once was does anyone clean their exchangers??

I used to use Simple Green to clean out AC coils when I work for a heating contractor. It work pretty good but I'm sure their are other products out there too.

yes inside the coils I'm not saying mine are clogged up I was wondering if they do clog up??

Calcium and other minerals...iron, etc. can and will foul up the piping in an HX.
We use acid to pump coils, would not recommend it for the average Joe..kinda dangerous. Lime Away would be good. If you isolate the HX from the loop (you DO have isolation valves and drains on inlet/outlet?) and set up a small pump to pump the Lime Away thru the coil and recirculate...Put some L.A. in a bucket, use garden hoses to pick it up and return to the bucket. Best solution is to have softened/treated water, but not realistic in an OWB open setup.

Do you have air trapped in the coils. If so just a little air will make a big difference on heating.
