Hi...looking for someone with more knowledge than we have to help us determine how serious our problem is.. We are in the S. F. East Bay. and have what I think is an Ash of some kind (11 leaflets, with beautiful bright copper color in the fall) in the front yard. I'd guess that the tree is approx 20 years old.(came with the house). It is very full and beautiful but, suddenly in the past week, several main branches appear to be stressed and threaten to break away from the trunk..the joint area has become dark and there is dripping sap.

We love this tree..can anyone give me some advise?

If you can post pictures it really helps, many will chime in if you can do that. A tree in portrait showin site conditions one of the tree canopy and one the tree trunk with its base in the shot The last of the wound area as you say breaking limb with sap .
