I have this tree in my front yard, the trunk and most of the branches seem super dry, even though I have tried watering it and have a sprinkler system. It looks like it may have been over pruned or something, I am a super nub and this is my first home. Can someone tell me if this thing can be saved and what kind of tree it is. Also, if it can be saved exactly what I have to do to bring it back to glory. Please and thank you!

Where are you located? Might help with ID...I'm not sure either. My guess is west coast?

So...let's say the tree is perfectly healthy and will live a long, full life (not sure about that, but just to make a point, role with it): that is a pretty rough looking tree and will never have good structure. Ideally a tree should have a single straight trunk and branches that are smaller in diameter than the trunk relatively even spaced along the trunk. This changes a little with different species, but not drastically. That tree lost its ability to have a tall straight trunk years ago.

I'd probably replace it...

Thanks, ATH. I am in southern California if that helps. I figured it would have to go but wanted to make sure I couldn't save it before I busted out my chainsaw.
