I just received my chain sharpener from Northern Tool (part # 193020). I have never used a sharpener before. While reading the manual it says for a .325 , .063 (Stihl RM) chain the vise angle (filing angle) should be at 30 and the top plate angle should be 60 deg. My Stihl manual says these angles should be 30 and 85 for the RM (I am using older RM2 chains). For the RS chain the Northern booklet says to use 25 and 60 (the Stihl manual says 30 and 60). Should I follow the Stihl manual ( I would think that would be correct). I will also be sharpening some Oregon 72DP chains (3/8, .050 for a friend) and the Northern booklet says to use 35 and 60 deg.

325 .063 Stihl manual Northern manual

Vise angle RM 30 RM 30
Top plate angle RM 85 RM 60
Vise Angle RS 30 RS25
Top plate angle RS 60 RS 60

For the Oregon 72 DP what should I set the angles for?

For my Stihl 3/8 050 semi-chisel that go on my MS 460 what should those angles be?

I also have on Oregon full chisel that came on the 460 that was really dull (what would those angles be, I am assuming it is a 72LG)

Thanks for any advice.

Recently started sharpening my own chains as well - am using 60o / 30o for RS chains and 85o / 30o for RM chains.

Hope this is correct - seems to be working well though.
