When sharpening a chain does one just push the file forward and remove it to then again push it forward or is it advisable to just stroke it back and forth without removing it from the chain for the desired number of passes?
Allways lift your file on the backstroke. "Back dragging" any file chips the edges off of the file effectively dulling it 200-300% faster than only pushing it.
I send mine out, but do touch them up.
But I always lift my file on the backstroke.
And, I rotate it on the forward stroke.
There's a tiny toothbrush size brass bristle brush I use every so many teeth to clean the crud from the file.
