Is that when two pieces of firewood are laid on the ground, then the next two are turned cross them - and alternate on up? Working on the terminology on Saturday night(I know - exciting is'nt it!)

That is my definition - not sure it is correct. It takes a lot of trial/error and some skill to build one and have it hold for extended periods. PIA, IMO, if there is a viable alternative.

I built 4 "bookends" to hold up the ends of my 4 ricks of wood in the back porch for the winter and have taken to building a wall of unsplit rounds/chunks to butt my ricks against out in the storage yard. Anything to avoid the time and trouble of chimney stacking. It does look nice though.
