Conveyor Trough

[Wood Splitter]

Few Questions for the experts out there!
1) Can I use UHMW Plastic for the trough?
2) Right now the chains yes 2 of them one on each side of the flight bar. They ride in a little trough themselves. If i was to lay plastic UHMW across the entire trough would the chain for some reason go off track since there will no longer be a trough for them to ride in. I cant imagine how since the sprockets on each end keep them aligned but I just wasn't sure...
3) The trough is only 14" wide will this cause problems for firewood sliding up the trough or should i make the sideboards at a 45 degree or 30 degree angle. Or just keep them at the current 90 degree angle.

4) How thick of a piece would you recomend to lay down for the trough? 1/16", 1/8", 3/16"?

I would think that for long chains the trough is to keep them in line. I would also angle the sides just to have more room to maneuver.

I'd use 1/4", more rigid and you won't get a wavy bed that way.
