Hello all
I am new to the site and would like to get some info or opinions.
I have an old craftsman 14" saw 358.350862. It was made in the 70s and has a self sharpening feature. It was modeled after the poulan 25da from what i gather. Question is the 1/4" chain is hard to find. The self sharpening features doesn't mean much to me, I would just as soon change it to a standard chain. Does any one know if they make a 3/8 drive sprocket that will replace the one on it. If not do you know where to get any 1/4 chain for it? It runs great, but would like to upgrade it some if possible.

Thanks

It would be better if you keep that poor little saw running 1/4" chain if at all possible. The 3/8" chain would certainly take a toll on this saw. If you can contact Sears repair dept. they can tell you if there is still spare parts available for your saw, they keep a lot of parts for those old saws and I recently got some drive sprockets for some of the older chainsaws they sold 25 years ago.

Welcome to the site. It sounds like you have a Poulan Super 25DA or 25 Deluxe clone with either the 2.3 (38cc) or 2.1 (34cc?). They still make sprocket/drums for those saws and they make the 3/8''. Id look on ebay, I see them all the time. Also the later models did in fact run 3/8" lp chain and it should pull it just fine with a 14" bar, alot of the saws has 16" bars and they cut with plenty of power to pull the 16" LP b&c combo.
Does it look like this one?

Thanks for the feedback. It looks just like that only it is a light blue. Will go ahead and check out the Ebay site and see if there is something that may work. The drive sprocket on this saw is removable from the hub, and some that I saw for the 3/8 pitch looked as like they were all one piece. Will keep looking

Thanks

Yeah your saw has a rim sprocket. I had a couple of these saws show up with 1/4" rim sprockets. Those are tougher (I think) and I prefer them to the spur sprockets. I havent seen any 3/8" rim sprockets for these saws yet, but the site sponsors carry the 3/8" spurs.

will the 3/8 spurs fit the shaft and existing clutch or do you need a whole new assembly? If not I'll try to find some 1/4" chain and stick with the old set up.
Thanks again

I have quite a bit of 1/4" chain. If interested, tell me how many drives you need and I will quote a price.
