does this look like maple

Bark kind of looks like Basswood, but could be Norway maple I suppose. Got any twigs?

That bark makes me thing Linden (Basswood)

First thought was Ash but the bark isn't quite furrowed enough. Basswood is probably the best bet.

I got it for free and minimum effort maybe and hour and a half cut split stacked

if tis basswood like the men say,, you don't want that for firewood,, except for start and end of season.. very lite when dry...........bad as cottonwood.....

Used log splitter didn't have time to do it by hand so I'm not sure how easy or hard it is to split

We cut a lot of red maple. With smaller rounds like the one laying on top, the bark is usually smooth.

Seems like its a toss up between maple and basswood I know when I split it had a weird smell kinda like gin

I'm almost positive it's not maple and 99% sure that is basswood which previously said is terrible firewood. It's best use is for carving as it is such a soft wood.

Basswood, doesn't have dark heartwood, look at the trailer load posted to see the difference, the dark spots in your pic look like knots from limbs.

It could be Silver Maple.
