Of course I don't call it a "blade" but beyond that I don't know a lot about bars. Even something as seemingly basic as how they are measured. My "dumb blade" question is how are chainsaw bars measured? Will a 20" bar have a 20" reach when attached to the saw, is it 20" from the adjustment pin, or is it 20" overall. Worse yet does each manufacturer have their own system? :confused2:

If I were at home I would just take a tape measure out to the shop for a little reasearch but at the moment I'm at work just trying to fill a short piece of my lunch hour.

A 20" bar will have somewhere near a 20" reach. It is of course longer than 20" in total including the mount area at the tail of the bar.

Depending on if the saw has bucking spikes and how far the adjuster is positioned to adjust the chain tension, you will probably actually measure somewhat less than 20" though.

Hope this helps!

Bob
