I have three flowering plum trees in my front yard. These trees are about 1 1/2 to 2" in diameter and 8' tall. One of the tree's branches are dead ( about half of them) the other 2 look pretty good. I can not see any problem around the base of the trunk or in the branches. Lately I have been spraying Dursban around the bottom of all the trees.

Any one have a thought?

Thanks,

TJACK

Thought #1, don't spray what you can't see.:alien:

Last month I was called to look at dying branches on a cherry. There was a big girdling root on the side of the tree that the branches were dying on. You need to dig away the dirt from the base of the tree until you see the first woody root growing away from the trunk. Be sure to protect yourself from the poison you have put there.

Then take a picture of the trunk bottom and post it here.

See this site for details on how the tree should have been planted:

Hey
Could be Black Knot!
If you cut it back about 10-12 inches if possible behind the dead branch it might work
Make sure you sterlize the tool after each cut!
If you notice a fruit issue it could be Plum Phox Virus
Big issue in the Niagra Region

Did you acquire this tree when it had some age?

Are there any areas up in the canopy that resemble where the tree was stubbed off and allowed to resprout?
