I'm not sure it would be worth fixin.
SMC, I've had a couple of McC line trimmers and thought they pretty OK. I have a 282 that I'm kind of fond of. If you measure your cable and go to a Sears parts store you could probably get one that would work fine. Just make sure the one you buy is longer then your old one.
