Englander stove parts

i have an Englander stove i have been burning to heat my hose solely with for about 5 years now. the stove is great but i am thinking needs some parts. the Ceramic Fiber Boards that sit on top of the burner tubes are starting to get burnt through in spots. is there any more cost effective way of replacing them than the $120 i would pay for the pair?

what is the purpose of these , can you substitute steel plate ?
