One of the 36" x 20' logs that game in my 10 cord grapple load this spring was a black walnut. It was long dead and so badly checked that I doubt it had any use to a miller or turner.

Boy does that wood burn nice.....
I pulled a couple of armloads out of a snow covered pile.
This stuff just fired...

when i was heating weith my insert i split everything small so i could pack it full and get a longer burn. now that i use a woodstove in the cellar i appreciate the rare big log i find they burn so much longer. now when i split i keep most of em twice as big as i did when i was splitting for the insert.
