I've been shopping for one. I prefer the older style as well. I have 3 tabs open on CL for F-350s...$8700 - $10,000...and a 1997 F-250 crew cab with 222,000 miles for $11,500...seems too high on the 250.

very nice truck,,,like they say,,take a chevy to church and a ford to the field to work:):popcorn:

USMC, yes that f250 seems to $ high with amount of miles....lower miles are your friend :)

nice truck the 7.3 liter in my opinion would have to be the best engine ford has put in thier trucks. I wish they still used it. this 6.0 and 6.4 stuff they have out now is crap compared to the 7.3.

ya and like everyone else said good find thier usually a big pile of rust in PA from the winters.

neither the 6.0 or the 6.4 are crap

I call BS the 6.0 was a joke I bought one new it left me stranded twice in under 50000 miles<a href="http://www.sweetim.com/s.asp?im=gen&lpver=3&ref=11" target="_blank"><img src="http://content.sweetim.com/sim/cpie/emoticons/0002045A.gif" border="0" title="Click to get more." ></a>

Yep, way better... hard to find much lower miles than that.

If you do find lower miles like under 100K they want BIG money for them.

i must have been lucky my truck had less than 125k on it and i just traded an 86 f-250 diesel must have been a good trade.

The 6.0 def had its issues when it first came out. Once updated they prove to be just as reliable as the 7.3, they just make way more power. The 7.3 has its own issues. Even the 5.9 Cummins has its issues. The 6.0 got a bad rap because of all the publicity.

I had a 1-ton Dodge but I needed a heavier truck. I couldn't afford to buy a New Dodge 550 so I had to find a Ford. I found a 1999 F-550 4x4 6-speed with a Diesel in good shape with 130k miles. I paid $5500 for it. I got a great deal on the truck. It really handles the weight well but I don't like the Powerstroke. My 1993 1-ton Dodge with a 5-speed and 4.10 stock would out pull and get better mpg then this F-550. But the 550 handles the weight a lot better. I think this truck should tow a lot better with 4.88 gears. My dad has a 2002 Dodge 3/4 ton with 6-speed and 3.55 gears and a cummins. We both had dump trailers with 5-ton of rock in them. We hit a big hill and he had to let off so he didn't hit me. His truck with those gears will out pull my powerstroke. His truck is stock. Mine is stock except for an exhaust and a cold air filter kit.

My other ford is a 2000 f-350 super duty with the flat frame rails. It is a 2wd with a V-10. The truck is in really good shape. It has 250k miles. I bought the truck for $750. It had an 11ft utility bed at the time. I am going to install a dump bed on it. I'll have a new Rugby dump system, flatbed, and new tires all the way around. I'll have just under 3k in it and like I said it runs great and the A/C works. I'm not a fan of the power plants in these truck but I couldn't pass up the price on either.

jimmy cricket--you got some buys on those trucks. dang--sure it wasnt at gunpoint???? :):):)

lots of truth to that--also, theres a company in az i believe--was in a 4x4 rag, and they make some of thier own parts for the 6 that cures all the problems--dont know the cost, tho

i like the bigger fords,,but don't like the diesels,, dhibbs75 calls them power chokes and he is a master diesel mechanic, i wish i had an f350 with the cummins engine but that will never happen

No gun although I carry one everyday. Maybe they saw it and gave me a deal.:biggrinbounce2: Just a lot of craigslist searching and a friend calling me when his company was getting rid of the 2wd.

My 6.0 is a powerhouse and has never left me stranded other than a starter going out at 165,000 miles. Most of the 6.0 problems were in the 04 and 05 vintage and were egr cooler related. The other issues are with turbo and a little secret I have learned is that they do not like high sulfur fuel with a variable geometry turbo. My turbo has failed twice and both times I was lucky and it was not permanent and it snapped back after a mile or so. Both times were also the only 2 times I put old fashioned just regular low sulfur fuel in. After the second incident I realized this and only use ultra low sulfur fuel in it and no prblems and that was 40,000 miles ago. The variable geometry turbo was ahead of its time with the fuel available in 03 and that IMHO was alot of the problem.
