Also make sure the piston is on correctly, with the ring gaps toward the intake...

William.. you mean the wrong ring in each groove ?? Because i never knew each ring could have a top and bottom. Please let me know. Always trying to learn more.

I will second this and bet thats what it is. If they are installed upside down they wont close all the way.

It's definitely worth checking out, but I can not imagine been able to insert the piston into a cylinder like that in the first place!

It would have been pretty tough fit and probably broken the ring ends?

Yes haha it would have taken some force to be able to do, but if somebody just gave up on a saw i dont think their abilities were all that great.
