Just stumbled across this site today. Anyone use on of these? Seems like it would help. Also seems like it would be easy to make. Just wondering if its really worth it. Could be better for my open fireplace till I save up the coin to do an insert or stove.

You at least need a blower grate so heat can be blown into the room.

I've seen the like and joked that it looks like someone used headers for a grate.

There are some high end units that are more decorative. Fans less obvious, some decorative metalwork...Those are over a grand, there ore models on the market for $250-500.

I have no idea as to safety, but I've seen them work, though noisy and un aesthetic.

Seems to me If I was going to spend $250-$500 on something like this I would be better off with an insert. The Idea of all the combustion air coming out of my house bothers me. Thats alot of lost heat from my wood furnace.
