I came across an ols Stihl Chainsaw that was made in West Germany. The saw has a tag on it that says: Type 1106 amd Motor No. 98326. There is no other information stamped on the saw. The saw is a light grey in color and has a red cover on top. The cover has the old "Log Style Emblem" and the word Lightening "written" above it. The saw is 100% original with no broken or missing parts. Anyone know what size this saw might be or have any info on it? Thanks

Hi Welcome to AS
The saw you have sounds like a Contra/lightning.These saws were the predeceser of the 090/070.
Not a saw you want for every day use,the piston and cylinder's are hard to come by and no anti vib.It is more of a collectors saw then a work saw.Make sure you spend some time going through the saw before you go to use it,it dosn't take long to destroy the piston and cylinder.
If you don't collect saws, just send it to me and i'll find a nice shelf for it to live on:biggrin:
Seriously if you are looking for a work saw you should be able to trade that for a nice saw.

Ok............Maybe I should word it differently for some of you.
It looks to be 100% original and looks like there are no missing parts. Even a dumb ass can see if something is "all there" or not. Being that it came out of a dirty old shed rather than a auction or sale, one could assume it more likely to be Original.

Thanks for the info from you other members.

Took me a few days to find a camera but here some photos of the old Stihl Chainsaw. I havent tried starting it but the engine is free yet.

Nice looking Contra/Lightning. It's an early one (gray color and roller rewind guide). Doesn't look like it has had a super lot of use but has recently not been cared for well. Clean it up and see how it looks. Good find!

Yes, early indeed!.... Note, green handle hose, FM starter recoil, dimple in clutch cover for extra handle (above rear bar stud) oil sight glass? The Lightning badge appears to be cast, can you tell us if the carb is a Bing or HL Tillotson?.............Nice find!!

On the you-suck-o-meter, this is complete bullchit.

Nice find. I hate you. :)
