Good morning~

I'm new to this site and I'm not sure if I'm on the right forum or not. I live in Conn and have a problem w/too many oak trees in the yard. Just wondering if anyone out there is interested in cutting them down for me and taking the trunks especially w/them. I'd be interested in the smaller size pieces of wood. There at least 40-50' tall and some are 18-24" in diameter.
Thanks in advance for the help.
Rich

Are they healthy, live oaks? Not very many members here are too keen on slaughtering them for no good reason.

I would KILL to have 'too many oaks' on my property.

Where are you in CT? Depending on where you are I might be able to recommend somebody to do that type of job.

Hey Rich. Why do you want to take down these oaks? There may be other options besides getting rid of them. Besides, unless there is atleast 8' of bole that doesnt contain sprouts or defects you won't get too much for the log.

Anyone need some wood?

I too am thinking of removing some trees. Oaks, Cherry, Sweet Gum, a few Pine and maybe a Yellow Poplar or two. What do you think?

Ye Olde oak

There is no such thing as too many oaks.I have 50 or 60,with half at 100 ft.I want to save them all.You might want to look up my thread, titled" old red oak on the ground".I tried every option to save that storm damaged tree.It was about 12" in diameter during the cival war.It takes several life times to grow a tree of that magnitude. Now a storm damaged or hazard tree,is another story. When it's gone,it's gone.:(

one down

Here is one of the trees that I would like to see on someones truck. A 70' Cherry - Prunus serotina, that Ivan laid down if anybody wants to come and get it. 35 - 45 minutes south of Huntsville, AL. If you want, take some of the privet too.

Rich, you may want to consult with a landscape architect before clearing any oaks that big and old. I have way too many oaks in my yard, and replace them regularly, but they are 1-8" diameter. Once they become part of your canopy they give $ value to your property.

Reviewing your goals and future uses with a professional is a good way to get what you want in the end.

Good morning~

Thanks to everyone that has responded to my question about the standing oaks. The reason for getting rid of them is that I simply have too many trees in my yard right now and want more sun than leaves in fall as well. I'm located in Bristol,Ct for those of you who were interested.

Thanks again,

Rich

Rich, 2 things to think about:
Can pruning branches make a big enough difference for you in the amount of sun and leaves?

If you do decide to remove some trees, you don't want to cut the healthiest ones and leave ones that will be problems later. A good consultant, found at www.asca-consultants.org can help with those critical decisions. A good one in CT has the initials SC.

Some Certified Arborists can help make those calls too. Some can't. www.isa-arbor.com
