I got my next years wood all stacked up today and had these few pieces that I could not split by hand.

Listed it on Craigslist, got a call in 5 minutes and it was gone in half an hour. The guy was happy, said it was the first time he scored wood on CL. I was happy, since in the past I just left the unsplittables in back to rot away.

This what I could hand split, so giving away 15 pieces was no loss to me.

Nice piles!

Why not work them up with the saw? Knots and crotches are the densest parts of the tree and make the best firewood.

I do what you do, anything not splittable gets tossed aside until the end of the season. Then I put two together, nail (actually screw) a 1x4 across one end. that makes a nice sawbuck to lay the rest of the blocks in for cutting. The 1x4 keeps the saw from pulling the block out of the "V" notch.

Next time, see if you can borrow a splitter from a friend. That will take care of the "too large pieces" for you. Even if you wait a few months to borrow, it would be worth it.

Hah!
