Don`t use a piston stop at all if using an impact driver, all that is needed is to leave the sparkplug installed, the impact will break the clutch free by just using the compression . The crank can be twisted if a piston stop is used when running an impact with something stopping the piston, the crank on a chainsaw is just a press fit that can slip out of sync.
Should I ask how you know that?

I have always used a 3/8" drive impact, don`t block the piston ,just let the compression provide enough resistance. Don`t let the impact hammer away, just needs a blip to remove a clutch spider/carrier. remove the springs and shoes first if possible.I know the crank can slip a little on the crank pin, I have had the joy of recentering two different ones on press together cranks, not overly difficult if one has the tools and background.
