Not sure what this wood is, it is very heavy and has an orange color to the wood. The wood was already cut so I am not sure what the leaves looked like.

Black Cherry. Good burner. Not the best, but quite good. Hard to find another wood with a better aroma, that's for sure.

By the way. I see those 3 maul whacks didn't work out so well, so they decided to take a chip out. :jester:

Yepper, both are black cherry by the looks of it. Top round that was split seems to have that deeper, nice dark cherry color to it, but all the rounds there look like cherry. The bark gives it away. I describe it as "chippy" or "lappy", kinda like shake shingles.

Yup, the bark def. gives it away, cherry for sure.

I think cherry too. I have been splitting about 1/2 cord of the stuff this week and I think it burns well and splits easy.

I compared the bark to burnt cornflakes.

Yep black cherry. Great wood. Even smell nice when cutting and splitting.

I split up some black cherry today by hand. Good stuff. I had to take a few sniffs along the way to give me super splitting powers. :)

I agree with the verdict above & I also love to get a hold of black cherry (splitting, fragrance, and BTU). I've found that if you place a piece of black cherry on a warm (not hot) stove (ie. when I'm starting a fire & it takes a while to get the stove warm) the chuck o' cherry will emit a great fragrance throughout the house. Red oak does as well.. sort of a nutty fragrance.

**Of course I'll save everyone the time & bandwidth with the obvious warning that the consequences of forgetting the wood atop the stove would be disasterous! (My stove setup takes a while to heat up & if just starting a fire..I'm gonna be visiting the stove to reload --so I can't forget it/or else the fire would die anyway).
