I know its not a chainsaw but i get the spring all in and the pully in. If i pull the cord a time or 2 its all good then another time or 2 then it looses its spring recoil. It only will rewind half the rope after it does that. Do you guys know what it could be?

Take apart again, look at the spring where it catches the pulley, and look closely at the pulley, see why it is slipping., make sure the spring isn't broke somewhere in the coil too.

Does that metal/tin cover on the spring come off and go on easily? The pully looks good and the spring seems normal. I wonder if i need to slightly bend the end. Should i post pics of the inside?

Ok i found the problem the tail on the recoil spring was bent strait or broke off. So i heated up and bent a new loop on it. The piece that was missing was on the holding end. It runs like a top now starts right up. Thanks for the ideas.
