looks like a white spruce or even a fir, im not sure because i live on the east coast.

Looks like a fully mature Norfolk Island Pine, if not that (and the needles are REALLY sharp, it's Monkey Puzzle. Both are closely related and common in warmer areas.

I always think of tree ferns & monkey puzzles & cycads as reminders of just how insignificant we humans really are. I can't imaging that we (as a species) will be around anywhere nearly as long.
