How long do you guys let your projects sit?

My dad was famous for having tons of things "in progress" and nothing ever completed, parts got lost or repurposed often. I guess that is why I try never to start anything without having all the parts and time set aside to finish a job, only downside is I probably change out a few parts here and there that could be reused but I have a heck of a used parts collection.
