Worked a couple days on a 359 Husky. It was dirty and junky when I started. Turned out OK after a complete carburetor cleaning and rebuild. Air filter was clogged with dirt and oil but I got it running fine. I took it out to the wood pile and let it go. Tuned it in as I had deleted the stops. That is an impressive saw! Anyone else have one they like? I have a 20 inch on it but feel it will go a 24 all right. This is the big brother to the 357 is it not? Comments? Mike

I have one in red, the 2159 and its ported by MMWS. Its an absolute beast with an 18" bar on it. I felt like the 18" bar was a good fit when it was stock but now that its ported I would like to get a 20" for it. IDK about a 24" bar though, not sure if it could oil it or not.

Supposedly the 359 is the weaker brother of the 357xp, purposely made a lesser performer, to hit a lower price point (as a "semi-pro" saw).

Despite a slightly larger displacement (59cc vs. 56.5), the 359 is rated at 2.9 kW vs 3.2 (3.9 vs. 4.4 hp). This has to do with the better porting and "crank stuffers" of the 357xp.

I run an 18" on one I ported myself (no machine work) and thats about perfect size. It is right there with a stock 2171/372 in 12-15" hardwood. Husky 18" is only 4dl shorter than a 20" anyway. It would pull a 20 or 24 just fine but its fun with an 18.

I bought a project 359 awhile back. It was in very sad shape, missing some parts and needed a rebuild. I rebuilt it and scavenged up the missing parts and really like it. I only did a BG delete and basic cleanup and beveling of the lower transfers, no other mods..not even to the muffler. I run an 18" 3/8 bar on it and while it isn't a top end screamer like my ported 357 I am very impressed with the torque it has. It's a fine saw with good manners for general use. I think I'm going to leave it just the way it is.

Before and after pics.

The 359/2159 is a great saw. Perfect for a firewood cutter as it will run a 24, although not with authority. It is a great saw with a 20" and even more fun with an 18". I've owned plenty of them and the 353/2152(both with cat and not) and I am fond of the torque in the cut. You can lean on them quite a bit and they just keep pulling(for the size they are). I don't feel that way about the 346/2153 or the 357/2156, they rev hi and like it there, not enough power down low which is where the more technical cutting is done and the torque not rpms is needed in my opinion :).

Mike, in softwood it will pull a 24 nicely.
Also it may have been dirty, but not junky, it's husky:chainsaw:.
