What is the best way to repair this problem? The 2 rear bolts are stripped and front one is missing. Is it best to drill and rethread to next bigger size or have you found another way to repair.

The timesert kit was UNREAL in what it costs. Im sorry but I don't remember the size but I got everything at a Fastenal outlet here local to me. Im not contradicting what blsnelling posted, we all know hes done more saw work and repair than any other 10 of us posters ever will, I was just posting what I did to repair one and how I did it.
Take the screw with you, they can match it all up that way.

Probably won’t apply here, but 3 bolts securing the air cleaner lid on my new to me 288 were stripped. I went to Home Depot and got about 1/4” longer bolts. Think they were either 5 or 5.5 mm. Problem solved
