The 605 is a defunct saw... and the 455 Rancer is still made by Husqvarna.

The 605 is a big heavy saw... the 455 is lighter and a newer design.

I think you would like the Husqvarna better.:)

The PM 605 is a 58cc saw, can easily pull a 20" bar.

18lbs with 20" bar

Its a little heavy, chain speed is kinda low compared to new saws, BUT its like the PM610, in the cut, its hard to stop.

If you can pick one up cheap, and it runs, or is clean...Id say go for it.

The rancher is 55cc's

13lbs with no bar or chain

These two will more or less follow the lines of saw evolution: newer saws have more RPM/chainspeed but less torque. It is hard to speculate as to which will be faster in a given log without knowing more - bar, chain, log size/type, etc.

Either way, both saws can and have cut their fair share of firewood and kept a lot of people nice'n'warm over the years!

Good post...

I have a PM610 that wears a 24" bar... pulls a full skip chain in big wood just fine.
