I have a Husky k970 cutoff saw that had oily deposits around the base gasket which was solved by Motoseal and made the tunable and run well. I also used a silicone vacuum grease on the rubber intake boot connections. I also pressure tested the gas lines and the carb, Its a pain to strip the saw to pressure test the case but sometimes need to be done. All most easier to just replace the crank seals and hope it not a case gasket.

I propose, it is time to stop guessing and do what Auto suggests.

I am guessing the OP doesn't own a pressure/vac tester. No time like now to buy/borrow/cobble-together one.

Avoiding one toasted jug/slug, due to running lean, will pay for a tester, which will last forever.

Just sayin'
