Husqvarna 390

Ok guys. I boght the wife a new nikon d40 camera yesterday so I got the green light for a new saw. I recently posted that husky prise have gone crazy high but I happened upon a 390 with a 32" for $969. Is this a good price for this saw or is it out of line? I considered the 660 but honestly after the 441 and the av and air injection I think i'm holding off to see what the new 661 is like, i'm getting spoiled by the whole clean airfilter and smooth cutting of the new saws. Give me some feedback on this saw as far as does it perform better than the specs indicate or should I go with the 660? The power to weight of the 390 looks very good but i've never ran one..

Sounds like you're getting the better end of that deal (D40 for a 390)!

Anyway, if you like the air injection and av on the 441, you'll fall in love with the 390xp. The 390xp is super smooth, has air injection, and has some decent nuts in stock form. If you want to mod it, the 390 can be made into a real monster. I have both the 660 (066) and the 390 and they are totally different animals. The 660 feels more like old school muscle, lots of power, but heavier and it certainly isn't silky smooth in comparison. The 390xp feels much more refined, is noticeably lighter, but the 660 has a little (and I do mean a little) more power. I don't favor one over the other, they are just totally different, despite having somewhat similar specs. Based on what you've said, I think you'd absolutely love the 390xp.

Thanks for the feedbak though, I have always liked all my husky's and loved my stihls i'm just starting to like stihl A little more since they copied alot of the husky characteristics.

I love my 390, it is simply a pleasure to run. It's a big saw that you can run all day and still feel your hands. It has all the nice features too: inboard clutch, side chain adjust, killer a/v, awesome performance from the air filter too.

Have you ran the 395? How does it compare if so?

If you like Stihls a little more, then go with them. They typically have a little better resale, a proven product, and have a very good name.

With that said, based on your initial post, the 390xp sounds like a nearly perfect fit for you. It's one of those saws you almost have to run in order to fully appreciate.

If you like Stihls a little more, then go with them. They typically have a little better resale, a proven product, and have a very good name.

With that said, based on your initial post, the 390xp sounds like a nearly perfect fit for you. It's one of those saws you almost have to run in order to fully appreciate.

I'm liking the new stihls more now.

Have you ran the 395? How does it compare if so?

Some. If you're constantly running over a 32" bar, you may need to go there. I was not as crazy about the 395, but they are stout as hell.

Actually thanks to a fellow AS member who hooked me up with his saw guys I got a 390 with a 32" with a muffler mod, port job and timing advance ready next week for a grand. I like the 395 but it is a little heavy for what I need. I looked hard at the 660 I'm just gonna wait to see what they do with the new version, if it's anywhere near the 441 then I'll go for it.

This will be my first ported saw after all these years and I feel like a little kid thinkin about it. Husky website list the msrp at $1079 so this is a great deal!

Well, I hate to say it but that 441 may not be used much after you pull the trigger on that 390. A ported saw just plain rips butt.

Oh I think it will be ok. I'm just gonna leave the 32" on the 390 and the 441 has a 25" which is my most used saw next to my 192 my 211 my 372 and a few others

Man all this 390 talk has got me goin crazy. Ever since i started using are new 390xp at work, i keep trying to tell myself i don't need one and that my Makita 7901 is close to as good. I mean honestly, the 390 is only .2 hp more.....plus the 7901 weighs 2 pounds less. BUTTTTT man is the 390 feels smooth and good in my hands hahahahaha.
