It's kind of a personal choice. You'll be longer in the cut, but slinging less saw up there. My personal preference was always more saw.
Thank you! I guess I will get a better feel for it when I see it in person. Good to it's possible, but probably not great. This will probably be a one time thing. The person asking for my help is very nice person in a tough spot. :(
 
When you say "chunking down", I presume you are talking about cutting from an aerial device or climbing?

No. A 28" bar would be very challenging to match the cuts well enough to cut the chunks off. Unless you are remarkably skilled and strong as well, you will be many hours and struggling a LOT to get that cut down. It doesn't help that you will be obliged to run that saw somewhat backwards on 1/2 of the tree, and this gets challenging to hold the saw for extended periods, especially if you are on rope and spurs.
