I’ve used it quite a bit now and I’m getting good results. Buying a bundle of used chain to practice on really helps. I can free hand pretty good now too but the guide insures more precision
 
I had one, and for the life of me I couldn't get it to work. I agree the different raker heights on the guide was great....just could never get the darn thing to work for me. Got an Oregon file guide and a raker gauge and have been happy with the results since.

Whatever keeps your chain sharp and you cutting is the most important thing. Additionally either of the guides are easily deployed in the field as well.
