What husqvarna saw came with a AV spring mounted to the front of the engine case just below the muffler. My father has a old husky and there is no decal on the saw any more. I haven't seen it it a few years so I am just going off memory. It has a more square shaped recoil and the recoil handle sits straight up not like my 55 that comes out at a angle.
I thought it was a 272 but maybe it is older. I will see if I can get him to send me a picture or a serial number .

does it have 3 screws holding on the recoil or 4? tall muffler or a box style? my guess is it's gonna be from the 298-2101 or 181-288 family of saws. 281, and 288 were the only ones with an extra spring AV out front i believe 2100 family had a extra rubber mount

It'll either be a 281 or 288. The 181 and 288 lite didnt come with the 7th mount.0722161537~2.jpgthese are my 2-288's, 181 and 281.

I agree with you about some of the 2100/2101's having the 7th mount. He said "spring" in front of the motor case. Thats what made me think 281/288.

I will be picking up the saw tomorrow. It looks like the 288 / 281's. Defiantly not a 2100 with the muffler that big. It should say the model on the data plate right.

Yep. Model and serial number too. It's located by the oil fill cap.

It is a 288. The saw seems really loose like it's sloppy from side to side and up and down. It that how the av springs work on these 288's or are the mounts shot.
I am use to the feel of my 2159 and 55 saws. They seem more solid. I think I have to tear into this one some. My father said he stores it on its side because when it's up right it leaks the oil out. Could be just the oiled sawdust but may be something else in the pump. I think the saw is 88 or 98 year.

Sounds like the AV'ss are broke. Some are rubber and some are spring or a combination of the 2.
