Ok so i have this great idea of building a long rod big bore 272
With a 288 rod and piston and cylinder 272 cases and crank
Has this been done and if so how did it hold up?i know it will
work but am curious of the power it will produce and
How well it will cool....rpms etc....

Most people on here only know what they read and they have no knowledge of the benefits of a longer rod. It has not been discussed much on here if ever. Its nothing new and I have played with longer rods back in the 70s-80s with the 355 Chevy small blocks.
The longer rod will give you a longer dwell at TDC and less at BDC. It will give you a longer burn time at TDC.
I don't think that cooling will be a problem.
Its not easy to change the rods on a saw crank but it can be done.
I think that you would be better off with sending the 272 crank out and having it stroked.
