I finally got around to digging into my second 026, it was supposedly a good runner, but had parted ways with a snowmobile sleigh and the rear handle met a tree at speed. The first one was the parts donor which needed a piston thanks to a gorilla with a piston stop...
I had dumped some gas down the carb and fired this one, but I hadn't really looked close at it until I pulled the broken handle off last night... Noticed something a little odd when I rolled it over, severe amount of rocking in the piston.
I'm honestly not sure how this hadn't already self destructed.

Getting pretty thin... Wonder if the piston was unbalanced from the beginning with that uneven wear on the skirts. Cat or dog hair? All my projects look the same.. a little hair never hurt anything

I pulled one out of an 036 that was almost a knife edge at the bottom of the exhaust side.

Ran ino two snowmobiles in my home shop this winter with similar wear; one was just plain miles, but the other was a severe lean but not quite burn down lean condition.

This was after 1500 miles with a performance kit that included a y-pipe, reeds and a fuel programmer that was set to pull 4% of fuel from 7750-8500, so right in peak power. The other side came apart...

As for the hair, the white is from my boy Bud.

47 pounds of husky/whippet sled dog. Brown, that would be our pup who was supposedly husky/collie/German Shepherd, but it seems his dad was more St. Bernard than German Shepherd. 90lbs and not quite 9 months...

a poorly lubed or tight wrist pin would put a lot of wear on the skirt as well
