Here's a link to a repair manual that references the 090R.

http://www.repairmanual.com/catalog/CF-11

And here's another reference to 090R. Maybe our Aussie friends know about this model and or book.

Then here's a page with all listed for which spark plug and the gap.

This is probably where Mr. Dibbs got the numbers?

And another link showing all the variations related to the correct spark plug...http://www.sparkplugs.com/results_fitment.asp?pid=852

Hope someone can come up with a real answer to this! You don't suppose the 090S is the Super model with 200cc's do you? :chainsaw:

That is exactly where I turned up those odd lettered 090 names!

I doubt stihl made an 090 with a bigger engine but you never know!
If they wanted a bigger stroke then they would have needed to modify the bottom end of the crankcase and if they wanted to have a bigger piston then they would have needed to have bored or changed the cylinder too.

If you're talking FrankenStihl......

KS 43 = 68mm Stroke & 68mm Bore
076 = 58mm Stroke & 42mm Bore
090 = 66mm Stroke & 40mm Bore

68mm piston @ 40mm stroke = 145cc (8.8 ci) with the cut down KS 43 cylinder and 090 crank
or
68mm piston @ 42mm stroke = 153cc (9.3 ci) with the cut down KS 43 cylinder and 076 crank
or
68mm piston @ 68mm stroke = 247cc (15.1 ci) with the full KS 43 cylinder and crank.

68mm diameter piston/cylinder is the largest I've heard of in a mass produced chainsaw.

I'll take your 090R and raise you!

I am sure I heard of a factory 090 version with more than 137cc - but don't remember the source - may be the 090S?

Btw, you messed up with bore vs. stroke in parts of your post, but easy to understand anyway.....:)

What is a KS43?

you need 2 men to operate it....:greenchainsaw:

Yep, I sure did!
Right figures on the wrong items!
You all knew what I ment though!

What is a KS43?

I think Hoss just had a bit of "displacement lust" there!

With the luck you've been having with the big saws lately I wouldn't be surprised if you had one within the week!

But the 68 is surely well NLA.
an 090 P&C on an 076 case is more realistic... Might be exhaust problems though, that would truly be a frankensaw. I might offer up the 070 jug onto an 076 out of interest of a 144cc brute

chainsawguy reminded me that the comp buttons are in a different spot.

If you can get the top off you will see that the 66MM release is at 10:00 o clock from rear of saw and the 58MM is at about 11:30 .

these are mahle OEM parts shown.

I wouldn't want to be within 50 feet of a ~250cc 090. I can't imagine the flywheel and/or case staying intact for very long, nor do I think there would be sufficient crankcase volume for the engine to run very well. And the vibration would be unbearable.

Don't let that discourage you though. Just because I don't want to be near a saw like that doesn't mean I wouldn't like to see one!

can anyone tell me if I can buy the 6 stone 090 clutch and 4" drum and put it on the 070?
oh and I will take one of those 68mm pistons please.

and if so are these 2 saws the same in the crankcase?

I have an 070 that needs to come back to life and a large collection of 090 parts, thus far it is looking like they are the same saw.

Not to throw a wrench in the works but what would you call a saw with a small 3 shoe clutch and 66mm jug?

Bill

I would call it an early Contra Lightning S. 137cc and 3 shoe clutch.
