Oh man you weren't kidding when you hinted about this one a while ago. I won't bother saying my usual comment this time...opcorn:

I take it the Martin Senour products paint you use stands up well to oil and gas? Does that saw have the 2/1 or 3/1 gear stet?

So far all the saws i have put this paint on
have held up very well to gas and oil. I do
let the paint dry for a 2 to 3 weeks before
running it. Just to make sure the paint is hard.

This saw has the 2-1 gear set.

My jealousy meter is totally red-lined however.
That Man Cave setup you have has me drooling dagnabit. :drool:
I really don't want to hijack this awesome thread but
if you saw the setup I have well... ha..ha..ahh hhaa haaa haaa.
Anyway very impressive and keep up the good work.

Wow. It even has the 'fast' gearset. The green monster on my shoulder just woke up. Dang it.......................You s...........no I'm not going to say it this time...

Thanks guys, It will be a few days before
i do anything else to it. Got to let the paint
harden up good. I have a few parts to clean
up in the mean time. With any luck i might
have it together next weekend.

I got a bit done yesterday and today.
Installed new crank bearings and assembled
the cases. Got all the parts installed into the
handle except the trigger lock, Gotta find one.
Recoil is all done and got some black on the
air filter cover and center of the recoil. Not
sure yet what decal sceme i will be useing so
i have put any black on the gearcover yet.

Nice job Lee, on a sweeet saw. Have you got a .404 gear for it? These are one of the fastest geardrives I have used.

This saw is set up with the 2-1 ratio so it will
have a bit of chain speed, More than the 3-1
which i think is the norm for these saws.

Still waiting on a couple parts but moving along ok.

I have seen the screen painted and unpainted.
New old stock ones come painted so i chose to
paint this one.

I don't know why.......but I've seen many many C-Series, XP-Series, and 2000/2100/3100G saws that are missing the trigger lock bits. Neither of my C5's have them. Did guys take them off back in the day? Were they an "extra cost" option back then? Strange. I find the trigger lock to be very handy when starting a saw...

Most McCulloch saws of the time period were built without them too. There is no provissions in the handle castings for them on the Macs.........but all of the Homelites I've seen that were/are missing those bits do have the hole machined for them...

That saw is going to be an aboslute BEAST, especialy with the 2/1 gearset. That saw doesn't need the 3/1 gearset unless you're pulling 72" or more of bar..............and probably doesn't need it even then. Seen video of Bill G's 3100G, and it TOTALY SPANKS the other gear drive saws...................at least ones that came from the factory. Your "797G" would give it a run for the money I'm sure. What gearset is in that saw?



Also..........while I'm steering slightly off topic..........who did you have make up the decal for your 797G? I may have need of a couple 'custom' McCulloch decals soon, and I believe RandyMac will too, once he builds his monster Mac geardrive...

Did a little more done tonight.
Got the gear train together. Piston and cylinder.
Rear handle assembly and lower handle, Fuel tank,
Flywheel, coil and recoil installed.

No not stupid!
Assuming is stupid. Like I did!
I got in a sears g 58 H and it is dry! Not oil filled gear box!
But have noticed, all saws I would call pro-grade are oil filled gear boxes.
