If you had that trimmed professionally I would file a complaint with the BBB. As mentioned, that looks like the final stages of a take down.

Only way to know if it's Cherry is to drop and buck it up. Looks like Cherry, maybe, but lots of trees have similar bark.
Post more pics of the felling/bucking/splitting job so we can see.
