Hi,

Please take a look at my Japanese Maple. I am wondering whether I should trim off the two smaller, lowest branches of this maple. Also wondering if there is any other advice you may have for me and this tree to give it better shape. Should I never shorten the tallest, branches at the top?

Please see photos at my blog:

Thanks,

I would advise you let this Jap Maple grow into it's natural size & shape. Young tree will fill out it's crown all by it's self without any interference by pruning (wounding). Keep tabs on your soil PH & nutrients, mulch is your friend. Nice tree!

IMO?I think those two lower branches are ugly. They throw the rest of the tree out of proportion.Cut them now and they'll sprout, and when they do just rub them out with your fingers.Or wait till dormant season.
