Japanese Maple

any idea what the oldest japanese maple in the U.S.A. is? Ihave one that has
an 8 foot trunk 50 feet high I am told it is the oldest in New England. do
you know or could you direct me to a source that would know? would greatly
appreciate any help.

Unless there are pictures or writen records it is difficult to determin age of a tree.

There are records of size, going by a set formula, to determin state and national "champion" trees.

If it is indeed a champion, they will probably want to send someone out to photograph it and document it.

The Cypress tree (The Senator) on the opening page is about 4 miles from my house. I know 2 climbers that have been up in it in the last 10 years, it's an awesome tree!

Could a Japanese Maple even get that big

I've seen A. japonicum listed as 40 ft max hight uconn site has it as 30ft.

They don't live long enough up here to get 10 ft tall.

Could be an A. ginalla at that hight.
