I am thinking about buying one for cutting firewood. Is it over kill or would I be better suited with the 2255. I am mostly in hardwoods all the time and the 029 and ms250 are a little under powered for some of my tasks at hand.

Excellent saw's I've used many i haven't ran the 2255s.
Someone here has.
But the 2166 is a proven saw many timber guy's run them and the 2172s around here.
I have the husky version the 365 my favorite saw with a 372 topend.
I run a 24 occasionally mostly a 20 cutting hardwood.
Little tree's around here lol

What size wood will you be cutting with it most of the time, are you planning on milling with it.
A 2255 is the equivalent to a 455 which is the competing model to the ms290/ms291 which are the newer versions of the 029, so getting the 2255 would be switching colors (and they are all farm ranch saws with plastic cases), but not much increase in power depending on the hrs on your 029 and which version as there were a couple different cc sizes for the 029. A 2258/555 would be a nice jump up as it's a 60cc saw(and a pro built saw with a mag case, just like the 2166 but smaller) that has a nice powerband and is about the same weight as the 029. It's also a small bar mount which is a good bit lighter than the larger bar mounts/bars that the 2166 takes. The 2166 also weighs quite a bit more even before a bar is put on it. That being said it is a fun saw to run and for bucking larger rounds it will get the job done easily.
Here's a stock 2166 with a 24" setup and a very dull milling chain(notice the fine chips/dust) cutting green red oak, with a sharp chain just setting the bar on the wood and letting it drop it would cut the same wood in about 2/3 the time or less.

I have used the saw a good bit. As of right now, I like it a lot. I am not fond of the plastic pull choke but it is growing on me. I know it is not my MS880 and can not take the abuse it does but I am happy.
