I see that some Jonsered 70E saws came with a chain brake. The brake seems to be rare so was this an added option back in the day? Is the brake compatible with both the early and late model 70E's?

The Jonsereds chain brake was a dealer installed option back then.....wasn't mandatory by law so wasn't included. If you wanted one you paid extra for the brake and the dealer installation fee. Yes the chain brake fits early or late and a number of other Jonsereds as well....not 70E specific...
