I spent the afternoon yesterday roaming the woods behind the house in search of some downed trees, and came across two that I am not sure what they are. Anyone have an idea to what these are from ? I am thinking the one on the right may be sugar maple ?

I think the left is Red Maple, and the right is Sugar maple....I'll wait for the experts though.
 
That would be my first guess too.
Red Maple on the left, Sugar (Rock) Maple on the right.

Second guess for the left one would be Norway Maple. Likely a Sugar and Norway wouldn't be hanging out together.
Something to do with Sugar only liking "upper class" Maple trees. :)
 
An easy tip to remember is to count the lobes. 3 lobes = 3 letter species (R-E-D).

5 lobes = S-U-G-A-R

Silver maples didn't have the courtesey to have 6 lobes:mad:
