We always split and stack on some straight branches where the tree was dropped and bring it back when it's seasoned. Why haul water? Stacking doesn't take that much time after you've figured out a good system and the results are certainly better .

Thanks again guys.

I've gone 4 times so far, and leaving the logs stacked on high ground where water won't get to them. There's a couple spots in the trails where my uncle can't get past with his tractor yet, so the wood's been staying put, and the stacks keep getting higher.

However, yesterday I took out approx. 2 cords of the bigger stuff by hand. I was able to get 50 yards away with my jeep and trailer....quite the good exercise..."farmer's walks" for the weekend warrior.

If I had the time and enough of a reserve wood pile, I would do exactly that.

I cut some maple and aspen in the late fall of 11' and left it unstacked on limbs out in the sun. When I split it in the summer of 13' it was ready to burn.
